Stacking Irregular-Sized Packages by a Robot Manipulator

Harry H. Cheng and Rajan Penkar

ABSTRACT

To study the feasibility of stacking irregular-sized packages inside a trailer, a prototype autoloader system has been developed. It is believed that this autoloader is the first system specifically designed to stack rectangular packages with various dimensions inside a trailer. Operation principles and some design considerations of this autoloader system will be described in the article. This case study demonstrates how robotic technologies can be applied to a complicated package-handling automation system.
